Be your beautiful self – new mixed media canvas 16

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you a new project I finished last night.

This canvas was inspired by 2 amazing blog challenges going on this month and was very fun to make!
Even though working with purple palate isn’t my go to move when I create, I really wanted to challenge myself to something new

As I said I draw my inspiration from the guidelines of both Dusty Attic’s mood board (especially their quot “Be your own kind of Beautiful”) and also from More Than Words blog “Traditions & Handmade” challenge.
And let me tell you, It was a very fun project to make 🙂

So my first idea for this piece came from the word inspiration – TRADITIONS – and for some reason my mind immediately jumped to wedding vows, than love, than to the image of a dress..

If you read my last post (frozen lovers), the idea there was “romance frozen in time” and was deeply inspired by the “Outlander” story and characters.
I don’t know what it is about this show but I can’t stop thinking about the storyline and the concept of epic love haha

I guess my recent state of mind made a direct link between the word TRADITIONS, their story and my wedding day… and here we are 🙂

Now that I had the dress concept, I knew it will be “handmade” and I had a general idea but it did took some fun experimenting to figure out exactly how to make it work.

I started working on this canvas without knowing where it will end up.

All I knew is there will be a dress as a focal point made by hand, purple and silver as my color palette and the quote to set the mood..

I tried not to overload the design of the canvas to much  because I didn’t want to steal the attention away from the dress and the quote.

I’m so happy I accepted this challenges, because I do feel I stepped out of my comfort zone and i’m very pleased with the creative journey it took me on and the final result.

The base for this project is heavy chipboard covered with Gesso and for the background I’ve used old clothing tags to make it more interesting..
I only used 2 types of paints – water soluble oil pastel and alchemy paints

The dress was made out of gauze, feathers and 2 types of lace.
The hanger was made freehand from flowers stems I had on the table and the thing that hold the hanger to the surface is a neckles end.

I would love to hear what you think!

Also I have filmed my process so if you want let me know and i’ll edit it to a video tutorial

Hugs & Kisses
